Richard EARLOM (London 1743 - 1822) "Landscape with the Finding of Moses" Original etching in aquatint dated in the plate in the lower center 1774, from a subject by Claude de Lorrain, from the collection entitled "Liber Veritatis, or, a Collection of Prints after the original Designs of Claude le Lorrain, executed by R.Earlom in the manner and taste of the Drawings, with Descriptions. ”Printed and published in London by John Boydell, the publisher of the Royal House, as a complete corpus between 1777 and 1804. Nice copy in first edition, printed in brown on laid paper with a hint of literal watermark from the paper mill of Dupuys Auvergne, typical of French paper production of the 18th century, with large margins beyond the imprint of the plate , slightly browned at the edges but overall in excellent general condition. It is one of the most famous editorial works of eighteenth-century England, in which Earlom experimented with the fusion of various engraving techniques that allowed him to make the most of the atmosphere of Lorraine drawings from the Royal collection. Following the great success of critics and the public, runs of this work were made up to the late nineteenth century, well recognizable both from the type of paper support and from the sharpness of the engraved field. Bibliography: Davenport “Mezzotints” London 1904 pages 136 and 137.
